Fruit Trees

Fruit Trees are beginning to appear in supermarkets and garden centres.  All Allotment Holders are strongly advised to check the label on these trees to find out the final height and spread of the tree before purchasing.  Putting trees (sometimes you need more than one for pollination) may lead to your 5 rod plot being dominated by the tree when it reaches maturity and therefore limit the amount of other vegetables you may want to grow alongside on your plot.  Your tenancy agreement requires fruit trees to be grafted which means a strong growing top of the tree is controlled by a less vigorous root.  Grafted trees are generally not available from supermarkets but from garden centres.  The Allotment Association provides an ordering system for bare root grafted fruit trees later in the year.
