About Us

Gosport Allotment Holders and Gardeners Association was established around 1947 and since then has been active in providing services to the growing community in Gosport.  Whilst our role and reach has evolved over time our current  role is to provide trading and social facilties for those who are Allotment Holders and Gardeners.

We operate through a membership system which provides the following benefits for those who choose to join:

  • Trading Huts at the following Allotment Sites: Brockhurst, Camden, Elson,Middlecroft, Rectory and Rowner where our products are quite a bitcheaper than other local retailers.
  • Access to discounted seeds from Kings Seeds.
  • Discounted seed potato ordering system.
  • Discounted fruit bush/tree ordering system.
  • Free entry to talks by visiting guest speakers.
  • Coach trip to gardens or events of horticultural interest.
  • Access to specialist advice from the Royal Horticultural Society, the National Vegetable Society and Hampshire Federation of Horticultural Societies.

You do not have to be an Allotment Holder to become a member.  We are delighted to welcome anyone with an interest in growing their own produce either in an Alloment, Garden or Window Box.  The membership year runs for a calender year (Jan to Dec) but you can join at any time.  You can join at any of the Allotment Stores listed above.  Membership is currently £4 for the year and if you want to take a partner or guest to the talks then for an extra £1 this person gets in free too.

The Association also manages the Rectory private allotment site at Alverstoke – see the Rectory Page for more details.

We also represent the views of Gosport growers at Gosport Borough Council Allotment Stakeholders Consultative group.

This website will not advise or tell you how to grow stuff as there are loads of Books, Blogs and Websites to tell you how to do that.  If you want free advice then turn up at one of our allotment stores and you will get as much free advice as you want to hear.  The only advice we will give here is to manage your weeds.  We all have weeds on our plots; some say a weed is only a plant growing in the wrong place, others view uncontrolled weeds as an absolute but avoidable nusiance.   Keep on top of your weeding – whether you are growing something or nothing you will still have weeds so please – dig them out, dig them in if you have to but please avoid letting them go to seed. One year to seed equals seven years to weed.

Thank you!
